Supervision for Waterloo Region clinicians

Waterloo Region has one of the strongest psychotherapy training pipelines in Ontario. With Wilfrid Laurier University's well-established counselling program, the University of Waterloo's research-heavy psychology department, and Conestoga College's growing mental health offerings, the region produces a steady cohort of new clinicians each year — many of whom stay and build practices in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge.

We work with supervisees across Waterloo Region, from RP (Qualifying) registrants in their first practicum positions through experienced RPs maintaining ongoing supervision in private practice. Our supervision is fully virtual, which suits the region well: sessions happen via secure video through Jane App or Zoom — no commute to Toronto for an hour-long appointment, no rescheduling because of weather on the 401, and evening availability for clinicians who see clients during the day.

Since 2024, 315 Ontario clinicians have trusted us with their clinical supervision — and 87% have returned after their first session.

What CRPO requires (and what we provide)

For supervision to count toward CRPO registration, your supervisor needs to be in good standing with a regulatory college whose members may practise psychotherapy, with at least five years of clinical experience, independent practice status (1,000 DCC hours and 150 supervision hours), 30 hours of directed learning in providing clinical supervision, and completion of CRPO's online supervision module.

CRPO doesn't pre-approve supervisors — the responsibility sits with you to verify your supervisor meets the criteria.

Every supervisor on our team meets these requirements. We provide:

  • Proper supervision agreements that align with CRPO standards

  • Hour-tracking documentation generated automatically through Jane App

  • Receipts and records that hold up under audit

  • Supervision in all CRPO-recognized formats: individual, dyadic, and structured group (capped at 8)

Who we work with in Kitchener-Waterloo

Registered Psychotherapists (Qualifying) working toward full registration — building supervised hours while managing growing private or organizational caseloads across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph.

Graduate students from Waterloo Region training programs whose practicum sites require external supervision. We're an approved external supervisor for Yorkville University's MACP and regularly support practicum students from comparable programs across the province.

Clinic owners and group practice leads in KW looking to outsource supervision across their team — ensuring CRPO compliance without absorbing the administrative load themselves.

Clinicians directed by CRPO to seek additional supervision, who deserve a thoughtful, non-judgmental space to do that work

Supervision formats and rates

Group Supervision — $95 per two-hour session. Five specialized weekly cohorts, capped at eight therapists. Run by experienced clinical supervisors and organized around clinical orientation — integrative, relational/attachment-focused, ACT/EFT, and child & youth.

Dyadic Supervision — $95 per supervisee per hour. Paired with one other supervisee for a more focused conversation than group, at a more accessible rate than individual. We'll match you if you don't have a partner in mind.

Individual Supervision — $185 per hour. One-on-one with a supervisor who gets to know your practice. Best for working through specific cases or wanting tailored feedback.

External MACP Supervision for graduate students whose programs require an external supervisor. Contact us for pricing.

Why virtual supervision works for Waterloo Region

A common assumption is that "local" supervision means in-person, locally-based supervision. CRPO doesn't require that — and for most KW clinicians, virtual supervision is the more practical option.

The closest concentration of in-person supervisors is in Toronto or Hamilton, both of which mean meaningful travel time. Virtual supervision lets you take a session from your office, your home, or between client appointments. Evening cohorts mean you don't have to block out daytime hours that could otherwise be billable. And because we work with supervisees across the entire province, we have a deeper bench of supervisors to match you with than most local-only practices.

For clinicians who genuinely prefer in-person supervision, we'd be the first to say we're not the right fit — but if your priority is finding a qualified supervisor whose availability and clinical focus actually align with yours, virtual usually wins on the math.

Hour tracking and attestation

Our internal Jane App system can generate a complete report of every supervision session you've attended with us — dates, times, format, and supervisor — at the click of a button. Attestation forms can be emailed to admin@ontariosupervision.ca and are typically signed and returned within 24 to 48 hours

In our years of providing clinical supervision, we've never had a single hour declined by CRPO.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a KW-based supervisor to meet CRPO requirements? No. CRPO requires that your supervisor meet specific credentialing criteria — geography isn't part of the requirement. All CRPO-compliant supervision in Ontario can be delivered virtually.

Can I do supervision from my Kitchener or Waterloo office between client sessions? Yes, provided you have a private space and a stable internet connection. Many of our Waterloo Region supervisees do exactly this — it's one of the more practical ways to fit supervision into a full clinical day.

Do you offer evening sessions for clinicians who see clients during the day? Yes. Several of our cohorts run in the evening, and individual supervision can usually be arranged outside business hours.

Are you an approved supervisor for Wilfrid Laurier or U of Waterloo students? We're an approved external supervisor for Yorkville University's MACP and regularly support practicum students from a range of comparable programs. We work with students from many programs across the province — if you're unsure whether yours will accept us, email admin@ontariosupervision.ca and we'll confirm

How quickly can I start? Most new supervisees are matched and scheduled within a week of their free 15-minute consult. Group cohorts have rolling availability; individual and dyadic supervision can usually start sooner.
