What CRPO now requires of clinical supervisors
Since April 1, 2026, anyone who begins providing clinical supervision for CRPO purposes must first complete 30 hours of coursework on providing clinical supervision. Before that date, supervisors could meet the 30 hours of directed learning through a mix of courses, supervised practice, peer learning and structured reading. That flexibility now applies only to supervisors who were already supervising before April 1, 2026.
CRPO does not pre-approve or accredit supervision courses. Instead, it publishes a Supervision Course Guideline describing what a course should cover, and this course was built module by module against that guideline.
CRPO may ask a supervisor for evidence of their 30 hours, a letter of verification, and a statement describing their approach to supervision. You leave with a certificate of completion documenting the 30 hours and a written philosophy of supervision you can adapt into that statement.
For the full picture, read our guide to CRPO supervision requirements and what changed on April 1, 2026.

Who this course is for
RPs preparing to supervise
You meet CRPO's independent practice requirement and want to start supervising RP (Qualifying) registrants or students. Since April 2026, this course comes first.
New supervisors
You started supervising recently and want structured training behind what you are already doing.
Experienced supervisors
CRPO strongly recommends a 30-hour course for all supervisors, even those who began before April 2026 and whose earlier learning already counts.
Supervision is a relational skill. We teach it live.
Most 30-hour supervision courses are self-paced video. This one is taught live, in a small cohort, by a practising clinical supervisor, so you rehearse the conversations of supervision instead of only reading about them.
- Practice in every module
- Role plays and case discussions on contracting, giving hard feedback, intervening in a supervisee's clinical work, and managing conflict.
- Built inside a supervision practice
- Ontario Supervision provides CRPO clinical supervision to RPs (Qualifying) and students across Ontario. The course reflects the questions supervisees and supervisors actually bring.
- Tools you will use
- A clinical supervision contract written for your own setting, and a referenced philosophy of supervision.
- A cohort of peers
- You finish with colleagues building the same skill set, which is useful long after the course ends.
Nine modules, built against CRPO's Supervision Course Guideline
The course moves from regulatory foundations through theory, relationship, ethics and evaluation, and ends with the hardest moments in supervision. Core text: Thiessen (2023), A Clinical Supervision Training Handbook: Becoming a Reflective Systemic Supervisor, alongside CRPO's own supervision guide and practice standards.

Frequently asked questions
Does this course meet CRPO's 30-hour supervision course requirement?
The course is 30 hours of live instruction designed around the content areas in CRPO's Supervision Course Guideline, and participants who complete it receive a certificate of completion documenting 30 hours of training in clinical supervision. CRPO does not pre-approve any course, so each supervisor is responsible for confirming that their training meets CRPO's criteria.
How much does the course cost?
Tuition is $999 at the early bird rate when paid before March 1, 2027, and $1,199 when paid on or after March 1, 2027. Tuition includes 30 hours of live instruction, course materials other than the core text, feedback on your final assignment, and a certificate of completion.
Is this course CRPO-approved?
No course is. CRPO does not pre-approve or accredit supervision courses and asks providers not to describe them as approved. Instead, CRPO publishes a guideline on what a supervision course should cover, and this course is built against it.
Who needs to take a 30-hour clinical supervision course?
Anyone who begins providing clinical supervision for CRPO purposes on or after April 1, 2026 must complete 30 hours of coursework on providing supervision before they start. Supervisors who began before that date can count a broader mix of directed learning, though CRPO strongly recommends a 30-hour course for all supervisors.
I started supervising before April 2026. Do I need this course?
Your earlier directed learning may already satisfy CRPO's requirement. Many experienced supervisors take a structured course anyway because CRPO recommends it, and because it gives them clear evidence to show if CRPO asks.
Can I start supervising while I take the course?
If you are a new supervisor, CRPO expects the 30-hour course to be completed before you begin providing supervision for CRPO purposes. Plan your start date for after you receive your certificate.
Do I also need to complete CRPO's supervision module?
Yes. CRPO's free online learning module on clinical supervision is a separate requirement for all supervisors. It is short and can be completed any time on CRPO's website.
What other requirements do I need to meet to become a CRPO clinical supervisor?
You need registration with an Ontario college whose members practise psychotherapy, five years of clinical experience since graduating, CRPO's independent practice hours (1,000 direct client contact hours and 150 supervision hours), the 30 hours of directed learning, and CRPO's online module. See our guide to CRPO supervision requirements for details.
Is the course live or self-paced?
Live. All five sessions are held on Zoom with cameras on, and each module includes small-group practice. There is no recorded or self-paced version.
What happens if I miss a session?
Full attendance is required for the certificate. If an emergency prevents you from attending, contact us to complete the course in a later cohort.
What do I receive when I finish?
A certificate of completion documenting 30 hours of training in clinical supervision, a supervision contract for your own setting, and a written philosophy of supervision.
When is the next course offered?
